Mid-19th century, Greek Islands. Elegant and skillful handwork - satin and chain stitches create repetitive 'spitha' or 'tree of life' motifs. Naturally dyed silks on sturdy handwoven linen. Tones of umber, deep teal, and cadmium. Recently prepared for the wall with a cotton sleeve.
