Antique Bargello Panel

Late 18th century, Italy. Traditional mesmerizing 'flame stitch' wool and silk embroidery on burlap ground. Over nine pieces of skilled needlwork, done entirely by hand. Mature de-saturated tones of copper, bronze, blush, wine, and serpent green. Strong textural surface. Areas of loss and abrasion, but backed with sturdy linen. A rare and exceptional piece.
