Antique Log Cabin Quilt - 71" x 72"

c. 1865, Pennsylvania, United States. Brilliant 'Barn Raising' quilt variant. A vibrating geometry of light and dark piecework. Warming tones of olive, tobacco, slate blue, and faded rose, punctuated by small fragments of brighter royal color and printed textures. Calming wide baded back in corresponding fabrics. Remarkable workmanship in both design and handwork. Closely pieced strips, densely stitched in concentric lines. The surface has weight, texture, and topographic quality. A few scattered pinholes and one area of discoloration on backside. Singular, special, truly a gem.
