Antique Tulip Quilt - 68" x 77"

c. 1850-1870, United States. Minimal folk-like arrangement of sixteen large scale tulips. Mirrored flowers on chiffon white ground - cadmium orange, and peach with a restrained desert and sand colored borders. All hand pieced, appliquéd, and quilted. Tiny and dense hand quilting in a sweeping Baptist Fan pattern. Stitching is worked in both green and tan colored thread. Back is an unusual lightweight open cotton gauze. This piece is imperfect, there are small areas of discoloration, and the binding is frayed throughout. Doesn't take away from it's tremendous presence.
