Midcentury Botanical Tapestry

$2,575

c. 1960-1975, Northern European studio tapestry. A clear and graphic herbarium study - thorned stem rising through the field, flanked by fern, berry, and vine. Rendered in soft browns and icy greens against a cream ground. 2-ply wool weft on linen warp, thin and supple. Individually woven loops along top edge make a intentional and sculptural hanging system. Skilled and evocative example of the mid-century revival of tapestry weaving, when artists across Scandinavia and Northern Europe returned to the loom as a form of drawing with fiber. Some light immovable discoloration throughout the left side, and light fraying of fringe. Ready for display.
