Early 1800's Flying Geese Quilt - 80" x 95"

$2,500

c. 1800-1810, United States. Precise and exactly Flying Geese quilt pattern. Eight rows of early cotton prints arranged in V formation. Pieced rows alternate with bands of caramel toned glazed floral chintz. Many exceptional and special calico printed cottons. Bound with a tiny woven tape - tan and green stripes. The back is plain white woven cotton. This quilt has never been washed, and therefore is slightly brittle. Two areas of broken chintz, otherwise it has been very well kept. A remarkable amount of careful work, in both the piecing and the quilting. Dense, considered, and mesmerizing.
